Basal medium for selective isolation of Yersinia enterocolitica.
Yersinia Selective Agar, also known CIN Agar, supplemented with selective supplement, is a medium for isolation of Yersina enterocolitica in clinical and food specimens. Sodium desoxycholate and crystal violet inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria; the irgasan, cefsulodin and novobiocin of selective supplement inhibit the growth of Gram-negative bacteria and enterobacteria. The mannitol fermenting bacteria induce acidification of the medium with precipitation of sodium desoxycholate and absorption of the neutral red. Yersinia enterocolitica cultivates with red purple colonies surrounded by a transparent edge, as “bull eye”.
