Microbiology Colitag
Colitag
Description

Colitag™ is a 16-48 hour water test (P/A and MPN) that detects as few as 1 MPN of E. coli and other coliform bacteria in 100mL of water. Colitag™ is US EPA approved for use as a presence absence test and in the Most Probable Number (MPN) format as specified in Standard Method 9221 for compliance monitoring of total coliforms and E. coli in drinking water.

Results can be read any time between 16 and 48 hours. Colitag™ is relied upon by laboratories in more than 2 dozen countries. Colitag™ offers unrivaled flexibility in the market, allowing you to use one test instead of three to read your samples. Colitag’s bright blue fluorescence indicating a positive E. coli sample eliminates the need for time-consuming confirmations created by media that emits a less-intense fluorescence. It works through the presence of two indicators, ONPG and MUG, and in the presence of coliform bacteria, the ONPG will be hydrolyzed, producing a yellow-colored positive test. In the other hand if E.coli are present , the MUG component will be hydrolyzed, causing the sample to emit a bright blue fluorescence when visualized in the dark under a long-wave (365 nm) UV light. This teamed with the flexible reading window allows you to streamline your lab processes.

Every Colitag™ package contains snap-top blisters with a shelf life of 22 months from the manufacture date.

Instructions of use:

For sample reading between 16 and 22 hours:

1. Aseptically add the Colitag™ to a 100mL water sample in a sterile vessel.

2. Secure vessel top and agitate to begin dissolution.

3. If sample is not already at 33-38°C, then place vessel in a 44.5°C water bath for 7 to 10 minutes.

4. Incubate sample at 35°C ± 0.5°C for the remainder of the desired incubation time; 16 to 22 hours.

5. Read results according to the sample interpretation method listed below.
